the front of the Highland Park Elementary building

Highland Park Elementary celebrated 25 years in 2023.

Highland Park Elementary (HPE), located on the east side of Lee’s Summit off of Millstone Avenue and Langsford Roads, opened in Autumn 1998. HPE has an average enrollment of approximately 450 students and 80 employees including classified support and certified teaching staff. HPE has three or four sections of each grade, depending on the number of students in each grade.

HPE serves the immediate community in which it is located, but is also home to two District special education programs: Life Skills, and CLASS. These programs enrich our school culture with exposure to diverse needs and backgrounds.

HPE K-5 students learn and practice leadership skills that set expectations for excellence from their earliest attendance. Students daily follow our mission to "live, learn and grow as leaders," and it shows in their behavior and expanded skill set. By the time HPE students graduate to middle school, they are attuned to serving others and excel in genius ways to be good, and do good.
